Countdown to the real Day Zero

Day Zero refers to the day when the City of Cape Town will shut off the water supply to taps because dams have reached a collective level of 13.5 percent. Residents will have to physically collect water at collection points – a maximum of 25 litres per person per day.

To avoid Day Zero the City is asking residents not to use more than 50 litres per person per day.  Unfortunately, it seems that not enough Capetonians are adhering to this limit.

The Democratic Alliance, who controls the Western Cape and the City of Cape Town, has a four-point plan to save Cape Town called #DefeatDayZero

Day Zero now seems to be the topic of every conversation.

And Capetonians are hoping and praying that Day Zero will be avoided.

Yet there is another Day Zero that will have far more severe consequences and repercussions.  This Day Zero cannot be avoided or defeated.

Sadly, most Capetonians don’t even think about this day.

In the Bible, in 1 Thessalonians 5:2-3, it says:

For you yourselves are fully aware that the day of the Lord [when Jesus will return as king] will come like a thief in the night. While people are saying, “There is peace and security,” then sudden destruction will come upon them as labour pains come upon a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.

Unavoidable

Cape Town’s Day Zero is avoidable if everyone plays their part.

The real Day Zero, the coming of Christ as King, is totally unavoidable.

The entire Bible speaks of the future return of Jesus to judge his enemies and save his people.  Jesus himself said that he would return as King.  Jesus always spoke the truth.

Global

Cape Town’s Day Zero only affects the Western Cape region.

The real Day Zero will affect the entire world and universe.

“No one will escape” (1 Thessalonians 5:3)

God is going to hold every single person accountable for how they lived.  Did they keep God’s law 100%, and are therefore fit for the renewed universe? Or did they rebel against the infinitely holy God and therefore deserve his judgement?

Permanent

Cape Town’s Day Zero should, apparently, only last for three months, until the dam levels have risen again.

The real Day Zero is not temporary.

When God judges each one at the return of Jesus, there awaits an eternal, permanent hell for those who have rebelled against God and run their own lives.

Alternatively, there will be an eternal, permanent, magnificent renewed universe for all those who submitted to Jesus as King.

Glorious

Cape Town’s Day Zero will be inglorious.  No joy. No fun. No exuberance. No excitement.  Only standing in long lines to get water.

On the other hand, Jesus described his return as “with the holy angels in his Father’s glory”.  All will see him.  None will doubt Jesus’ Kingship and Deity.  Those that follow Jesus will be filled with inexpressible joy and happiness.

It will be unlike any day the universe has ever experienced before.

Sudden

We in Cape Town have had ample warning of the water crisis.  Day Zero should not catch anyone by surprise.

However, many will be surprised by the coming of Jesus.

“While people are saying, “There is peace and security,” then sudden destruction will come upon them as labour pains come upon a pregnant woman…” (1 Thessalonians 5:3)

“The day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.” (1 Thessalonians 5:2)

#PrepareForRealDayZero

You cannot #DefeatRealDayZero, but you can #PrepareForRealDayZero.

The way to prepare for and survive the real Day Zero is not by saving or stock-piling water, but by submitting to Jesus as King.  Those who do so will escape God’s judgement because Jesus has borne that judgment on the cross for them.

Jesus then rose from the dead demonstrating that his death was acceptable to God for the rescue of others.

The #RealDayZero clock is counting down.
