My prayer for the government of South Africa

Knowing that God hears the prayers of his people, let’s keep asking God to raise up leaders and a government that loves truth and righteousness, and has a deep concern for all our people, especially the poor and vulnerable.
A government that appoints leaders, cabinet members and SOE board members on merit, not on the basis of cadre deployment or political expediency.
A government that wisely leads and guides a largely traumatized country in a way that aids the healing of hurts and past inequality rather than the opening of new wounds and the deepening of disparity.
A government that is truly multi-cultural and multi-ethnic, that insists on the dignity of all people (including babies in their mother’s womb) because they affirm that there is only one race – the human race.
A government that refuses to protect its own leaders with very expensive VIP protection, while ordinary South Africans (especially women) are robbed, raped and killed.
A government that resists using private and expensive medical practitioners and hospitals, while the average South African does not have access to adequate and life-preserving healthcare at public hospitals and clinics.
A government that stubbornly rejects racism in all its many forms, including BBEEE; acknowledging that two wrongs (previous apartheid legislation and present skin-colour based ‘Affirmative Action’) don’t make a right.
A government that outrightly and visibly repudiates corruption and incompetence, punishing (not rewarding) all those implicated.
A government that rewards good and punishes evil.
A government that is willing to take accountability, if not to God, at least to people.

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer and bless our beautiful, bountiful, battered land.
